Programme · Priorities

What Salzgitter is about.

The priorities for Salzgitter – topic by topic. For each area we describe what is at stake in the city, what has been achieved so far, what comes next, and why it matters for Salzgitter.

How the programme is structured

Four questions per topic.

Each priority is laid out along four questions: where Salzgitter stands today, what has already been achieved, what the next step is – and why it is important. The track record shown here is based on documented facts; the campaign team will add the concrete next steps for 2026.

01

Industry & jobs

Problem in Salzgitter

Salzgitter is a significant industrial location: the VW plant and the PowerCo battery cell production shape the economy and employment. At the same time, the automotive sector is under considerable transformation and cost pressure.

Bisherige Bilanz

Frank Klingebiel has publicly campaigned for preserving the VW and PowerCo sites and sharply criticised the VW board's austerity plans in 2024 (quote from 11.09.2024: "The board's actions are unbelievable … a breach of culture and trust").
